LT3070 Linear Regulator Has Low Dropout Voltage

The LT3070 is a digitally programmable Linear regulator said to have the lowest dropout voltage, lowest noise and fastest transient response of any monolithic 5A LDO currently available. Dropout voltage at 5A is 85mV and output voltage noise at 5A is 25uVRMS over a 10 to 100kHz bandwidth. The LT3070's 1MHz unity-gain bandwidth, coupled with its minimum 15uF ceramic output capacitance, provides 30mV of overshoot/undershoot in response to a 4.5A output load step, saving bulk capacitance, space and cost.

It is suitable for efficiently powering low-voltage, high-current devices such as FPGAs, DSPs, ASICs, microprocessors, sensitive communication supplies, server/storage devices and post-buck regulation applications. The LT3070's output voltage is digitally programmable from 0.8 to 1.8V in 50mV increments. Accuracy is tightly specified at +/-1 per cent over line, load and temperature. A digital margining feature can adjust system output voltage in increments of +/-1, +/-3 or +/-5 per cent, said to be advantageous during a system development debug.

A Powergood flag indicates if output voltage is in regulation or the device is in UVLO and the flag also provides an early warning indication of a thermal fault. The LT3070's input supply-voltage range is 0.95 to 3.0V and its bias supply voltage ranges from 2.2 to 3.6V. The bias supply provides gate drive to the internal NMOS pass device. Multiple LT3070 devices can be easily paralleled for higher output current and to spread heat across a PCB.

A tracking feature can control a buck regulator powering the LT3070's input. This tracking function drives the upstream buck regulator to maintain the LT3070's input voltage at VOUT + 300mV, minimising power dissipation. If output voltage is dynamically changed, the tracking function automatically adjusts the output voltage of the buck regulator to maintain efficiency. Internal protection circuitry includes UVLO, reverse-current protection, precision current limiting with power foldback and thermal shutdown with hysteresis. The LT3070 is offered in a thermally enhanced, low-profile (0.75mm) 28-lead 4 x 5mm QFN package and both E and I grades operate from -40 to 125C junction temperature range.

Voltage-Controlled Oscillator Is RoHS Compliant

Z-Communications has announced an RoHS-compliant Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO), model ZRO2407A1LF in S-band. The ZRO2407A1LF operates at 2,400-2,415MHz with a tuning-voltage range of 0.5-4.5V DC. This VCO features a typical phase noise of -115dBc/Hz at 10KHz offset and a typical tuning sensitivity of 14MHz/V.

It is designed to deliver a typical output power of 3dBm at 5V DC supply, while drawing 21mA (typical) over a temperature range of -40 to 85C. This VCO features typical second harmonic suppression of -18dBc and comes in Z-Comm's standard MINI-16-SM package, measuring 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.22in.

It is available in tape and reel packaging for production requirements. The ZRO2407A1LF is also suitable for automated surface-mount assembly and reflow, as well as fixed-wireless and digital-radio applications that require ultra-low phase-noise performance.

IVT Monitors Current And Voltage In Electric Cars

Isabellenhuette Heusler has introduced a sensor module (IVT) that measures current and voltage during lithium-ion battery charging and discharging periods. It can be configured according to customer requirements. It is suitable for use in hybrid and electric vehicles.

The IVT (shunt measures 20 x 85mm, board measures 20 x 40mm) can perform measurements within a current range of +/- 1,500A at a resolution of 50mA. The sensor module records voltage within a range of +/- 20V at a resolution of 1mV. Measurements are taken via a 100-u-ohm-shunt and measured values are logged by the four-channel 16-bit data-acquisition system ISA-ASIC. For this pre-calibrated sensor module, customer calibration is no longer necessary. Both supply voltage and SPI signal are electrically isolated.

Safety Brake Rectifier Emits Constant DC Voltage

The Roba-multiswitch, developed for switching safety brakes quickly, is capable of emitting a constantly controlled DC voltage, independent of the mains voltage. This means that complex adaptation of magnetic coils to varying input voltages becomes unnecessary. Overexcitation on switch-on ensures that the connected brakes release extremely quickly.

Two designs are sufficient to cover all mains voltages worldwide, from 100 to 250V AC or 200 to 500V AC, and mains frequencies of 50 to 60Hz. The Roba-multiswitch for the mains voltage range from 200 up to 500V AC is conceived for the operation of safety brakes with 104V DC coils. The constant output voltage is produced using phase segment control. When switched on, the device temporarily (0 to 50ms) emits a bridge voltage, equalling 90 per cent of the applied mains voltage, rectified to the magnetic coil.

After this very short phase, a controlled overexcitation voltage of 180V DC is applied. The overexcitation time - up to the switchover to the operating voltage of 104V DC - can be selected via DIP switch to the levels 0.15s, 0.45s, 1s, 1.5s and 2s. The Roba-multiswitch for mains voltages of 100 to 250V AC works using a controlled overexcitation voltage of 90V DC. The selectable overexcitation times remain the same. The operating voltage (coil nominal voltage) is 52V DC.

Seaward Unveils High-Voltage Test Range

Seaward Electronic has announced a range of high-voltage test equipment. The range is designed for the safe and practical detection of voltages on electrical systems in the power generation and distribution, rail network, petrochemical, and electrical service and maintenance industries. The high-voltage safety testing equipment available includes neon and digital voltage indicators, safe discharge units, neon and digital phasing equipment, insulator leakage detectors and current clamps.

The KDIE high-voltage indicators include neon and digital systems to confirm the presence of voltage on earthed neutral electrical circuits up to 33kV. These are supported by a range of high-voltage phasing rods that enable phase comparisons to be made at the point of paralleling two circuits, without the interposition of voltage transformers or secondary wiring circuits. A neon-type instrument is available for use on circuits up to 11.5kV, and digital versions are available for use on systems of up to 15kV and 33kV.

The range of HV indicators and phasing units is supported by a hook ammeter for accurately measuring current flow on overhead power lines, and a large jaw clamp meter for the measurement of current flow through large conductors. In addition to the standard range of test equipment, specialist testers are available for the safe discharge of stored energy in large capacitors and electrically charged equipment. A dedicated airfield ground lighting voltage detector has also been introduced, for proving dead-on AGL systems up to 5kV.

All high-voltage test and measurement equipment in the Seaward range complies with international safety standards and is manufactured in accordance with IEC 61243. As well as specialist carrying cases, a range of accessories is available in support of the main high-voltage test instruments. These comprise proving units, battery chargers, overhead line extensions and bend-end adaptors for specialist switchgear locations.

SymCom MotorSaver Model 202 3-Phase Voltage Monitors

SymCom MotorSaver Model 202 is an auto-ranging voltage monitor designed to protect three-phase motors regardless of size. It is used on 190-480 VAC, 50 to 60 Hz motors to prevent damage caused by single phasing, low voltage, high voltage, phase reversal, or voltage unbalance. A unique microcontroller-based voltage and phase sensing circuit constantly monitors the three phase voltages to detect harmful power line conditions.

When a harmful condition is detected, the MotorSaver's output relay is deactivated after a trip delay. The output relay reactivates after power line conditions return to an acceptable level for the selected amount of time (Restart Delay). The trip delay prevents nuisance tripping due to rapidly fluctuating power line conditions.
