Eaton Unveils Proportional Pressure Relief Valve

Eaton Corporation has introduced a high-flow proportional pressure relief valve with integrated control electronics. This plug-and-play unit has an industry-standard seven-pin connector hook-up. The new valve, designated KBCG5-3, complements Eaton's KB proportional valve series by extending the flow capability up 40 litres per minute while offering all the same features and functions of the range.

Colin Cooper, product manager of industrial controls for the EMEA region, said: 'This new valve is designed to help extend the flow rate options within our KB series and thereby broaden the scope of potential applications. 'It has all the features offered by the other units in the range plus an onboard pre-programmed amplifier to ensure the maximum consistency of functionality,' he added.

Features offered by the new KBCG5-3 valve and common to all units in the KB range as standard include: onboard digital electronics with ramp adjustment; IP65/67 environmental protection; a choice of voltage and current command supply; five different pressure settings; hysteresis and linearity stability; and electrical power-down 'failsafe' protection.

In addition to these features, the KBCG5-3's integral amplifier is pre-programmed with preset pressure ratings to help ensure consistent pressure gain settings and valve-to-valve performance repeatability. Options include voltage or current command supply and an external valve-enable function.

Peek Polymer Meets Bite-Stick Pressure Demands

When Dentronix has selected Victrex Peek for its High Heat bite-stick design, as the material can withstand the high temperature requirements of dry-heat sterilisers. Victrex Peek is a high-performance polymer used in a range of high-end medical applications. Mark Van Meter, engineer at Coltene Whaledent, said: 'We needed a material that was strong enough to withstand the forces associated with the bite and Victrex Peek polymer meets the bite-pressure requirements.

'Victrex Peek polymer gives the stick the ability to withstand at least 50 cycles in the dry-heat steriliser with no loss of properties, or change in shape or colour. The bite stick also needed to be able to withstand sterilisation in an autoclave, as well as sterilisation in solutions such as glutaraldehyde, peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide.

Transducers For High Line Pressure Applications

RDP Electronics has announced that it has a range of transducers available for high line pressure applications where it is important to measure the differential pressure between two pressure ports.

Applications such as measuring the pressure across hydraulic cylinders, very high pressure filter measurement, or test applications where a very high line pressure or very high overload pressure is called for, can all be addressed with true wet/wet differential transducers.

Versions can allow differential pressure of 4,000lb/in2, for example, even where the line pressure may already be 5,000lb/in2. They are designed for the minimum possible error caused by variations in line pressure. Transducers are manufactured from stainless steel and versions are compatible with a range of fluids and gases.

XMD Pressure Transmitter Measures Level And Flow

Impress Sensors & Systems has introduced the XMD range of smart differential pressure transmitters for process-industry applications. The transmitters can be used for level measurement of closed, pressurised tanks; pump and filter control; or for closed-pipe flow measurement in conjunction with an orifice plate, Venturi or nozzle. The XMD range is ideal for flow applications due to the device's ability to switch the output from a standard linear output to a square-root extraction where flow rate can be output.

Target industries include chemicals, paper and pulp, petrochemicals, energy and power, food and dairy and pharmaceuticals. The XMD has a differential pressure range from 75mbar up to 2 bar and with a static over-pressure capable of 130 bar line pressures. The calibrated pressure range can also be turned down 10:1 times, which means that a 75mbar range can give a full-scale output at 7.5mbar, while still maintaining the 130 bar line pressure.

A 5:1 turn-down ratio maintains the accuracy of the transmitter, which is +/-0.1 per cent FSO. Outputs available are 4-20mA as standard with the option of having Hart communication. If this option is selected, the XMD is Atex-approved as standard. The device is safe for Zone 0/1 and an Ex d version is available with a flameproof enclosure for Zone 1 applications.

The XMD range is designed for harsh process manufacturing environments and so the electrical enclosure is a two-chamber aluminium die cast, powder coated with the option to include an integrated smart display. The optional display is an LCD with a visible range of 32.5 x 22.5mm. There is also a textual display and a 52-segment bar-graph that runs along the bottom of the display for easy interpretation of the output from the device. Even with this display option, the XMD is still rated to IP67.

Pressure Regulators Ensure Constant Gas Supply

Dome-loaded 797 LE-HD gas-controlled pressure regulators from Witt can provide an economic and safe solution to ensure gas cutting systems receive a constant gas supply, according to the manufacturer. The company said this system of gas regulation is more economical than using a full electronic control system. In one application the three inlet lines for oxygen and propane are supplied via Witt pressure regulators to optimise the automatic gas supply.

The gas control was regulated using proportional valves with changes in the gas pressure being adjusted by pressure changes, thereby controlling the cutting process. Witt pressure regulators can be used for numerous applications with a range of flow rates and gases. They are used as a primary pressure regulator, which can be installed in any orientation, in gas supply pipeline systems to ensure a consistent stable pressure up to a flow of 2300m3/h and are independent of any inlet pressure fluctuations in the gas supplies, including gas withdrawals.

They are also suitable for use in shipyards, chemical processing plants, offshore and diving vessels, glass making as well as steel making and foundry applications. Other features include integrated pilot pressure and pressure gauge connections as well as being able to centrally regulate several gas supplies to the same working pressure, while the compact design enables them be installed in confined spaces. The maximum pre-pressure for the 737LE-HD is 240 bar with a regulating range from 2-45 bar.

IFM Announces Pressure Sensor Series

IFM Electronic has launched the PMP series of pressure sensors. The PMP series features hygienic design, high accuracy, connectivity and suitability for hazardous areas. Via Profibus PA the PMP series can offer extended diagnostic capabilities beyond just the signal processing. The high degree of accuracy of 0.2 per cent is achieved by electronic temperature compensation and improved temperature decoupling.

The flush process connection is via IFM's EHEDG-certified modular hygienic adapter system, allowing integration via common process adapters, ideal for CIP or other applications. Via Profibus PA, the PMP series offers extended diagnostic capabilities beyond signal processing. To ensure this, the unit carries out self-tests while in operation.

The diagnosis status can be polled cyclically or acyclically via the Profibus master. Food and pharmaceutical processes may give rise to explosive vapours or dust clouds, leading to classification of the working area as a hazardous zone under DSEAR/ATEX. Four units of the PMP range are certified 1G and 1D/2D for these applications. The pressure range that the PMP series will monitor is split over four common spans in separate devices.

Programmable Pressure Sensors

TURCK USA introduces new programmable pressure sensors that combine high accuracy and performance with simple programming, resulting in an extremely user-friendly sensor. The PS400 and PS500 sensors are easily programmed via three controls: two push buttons for scrolling through programming features and one recessed enter key. The menu is clear and concise to allow parameters such as set points, reset points, output functions, analog ranges, and a range of special options to be programmed with ease. The menu also includes an optional electronic lockout that disables the push buttons from functioning until the lockout is removed.

The high accuracy programmable pressure sensors are specified with a switch point accuracy of ≤+/- 0.5 percent, generally exceeding what is required by the machine engineering sector. The combination of high accuracy and flexible programming often allows a single sensor to replace several conventional sensors (with varying sensing ranges) resulting in a significant reduction in inventory.

These TURCK sensors feature a large, bright 4-digit, 7-segment LCD display with a constant indication of pressure in either psi (pounds per square inch), bar, kPa (kilopascals), or MPa (megapascals). This display is tilted at a 45° angle, and can be inverted electronically for easy reading in a variety of applications. The PS400 and PS500 pressure sensors are encased in compact, 34 mm diameter housing with various threaded connections for simple, versatile installation. The PS500 series also features a process connection that allows the housing to rotate 360 degrees for optimal viewing prior to locking the sensor in place.

The innovative PS400 and PS500 pressure sensors were designed to tolerate tough applications. Stainless steel housing with an integrated stainless steel M12 eurofast ® connector enables fast and reliable installation. The sensors also offer a variety of stainless steel pressure connections including G1/4 and 1/4-18NPT threads.

The sensors are highly resistant to overpressure and burst pressure, yet they also incorporate a patented medium stop system that prevents leakage when these levels are exceeded, which immediately seals the sensor if the pressure cell has been damaged. All of these features were incorporated to create a pressure sensor ideal for use in virtually any application.
