When Dentronix has selected Victrex Peek for its High Heat bite-stick design, as the material can withstand the high temperature requirements of dry-heat sterilisers. Victrex Peek is a high-performance polymer used in a range of high-end medical applications. Mark Van Meter, engineer at Coltene Whaledent, said: 'We needed a material that was strong enough to withstand the forces associated with the bite and Victrex Peek polymer meets the bite-pressure requirements.'Victrex Peek polymer gives the stick the ability to withstand at least 50 cycles in the dry-heat steriliser with no loss of properties, or change in shape or colour. The bite stick also needed to be able to withstand sterilisation in an autoclave, as well as sterilisation in solutions such as glutaraldehyde, peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide.
