APD Connector Ensures Maximum User Safety

ITT Interconnect Solutions has developed the APD one-way finger-protective connector designed for use in high voltage and maximum power applications. The connector is said to ensure maximum user safety as well as providing sealing up to IP69k.

The APD one-way finger-protective connector is said to be easy to use and features a plastic cap that protects the user's fingers. The connector receptacles mate with standard APD one-way plugs and incorporate ITT ICS's APD contact, crimp and coupling nut system. Pin contacts are available with standard crimp and additional screw or bolt terminations.

The connectors suit cable cross-sections from 16mm up to 50mm. Electrical specifications include voltage rating up to 400VDC in mated condition with an upgrade to 630VDC possible based on normative regulations (connectors must not be mated or unmated under load). Current rating is up to 245A at 25C.

Molex Offers PSE Integrated Connector Module

Molex has announced the Hyperjack PoE+ Power Source Equipment (PSE) Integrated Connector Module (ICM). Available in 2x4 and 2x6 configurations, the Hyperjack modules feature a fully integrated design that reduces the engineering effort, allowing for plug-and-play Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) without investing in development of PoE+ capability.

PoE is a technology that defines the transmission of data and power to network devices over a standard Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for separate power supplies. PoE+ is the new IEEE 802.3at power-over-Ethernet standard and provides the opportunity for switch manufacturers to increase port-power output to 30W. The specification of the 802.3at standard is backward compatible, supporting legacy 802.3af devices.

Based on the RJ45 jack, the design combines PoE+ controller silicon to manage and deliver 30W Power over Ethernet. This is coupled with Gigabit PoE+ magnetics to support Ethernet 10/100/1000, thermal management and a high level of protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transient (EFT) and electromagnetic interference (EMI). The ICMs are available with two bi-colour light-emitting diodes (LEDs) per port with a capability to indicate up to eight operating states. In addition, the Hyperjack PoE+ PSE ICM design complies to Poetec V2.0 specifications with a standardised footprint and register set, allowing for drop-in upgrades and product expansion.

PSE Integrated Connector Modules provide engineers with flexible port configurations and a fast migration path from non-PoE to fully integrated PoE+ designs. Users provide a 51-56V and 3.3V power supply to automatically manage and control power to connected Ethernet devices such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones, wireless access points and security cameras. Extra management can be achieved via the I2C interface.

Schurter Develops Connector Search Tool

Using Schurter's Parametric Search for Mating IEC 60320 Connectors tool, customers can quickly find a power supply connection solution for a particular application. Searching for suitable equipment connectors (appliance couplers) means selecting the connector parameters according to IEC 60320.

The search for connector options on the Schurter website, which can be performed from the most diverse perspectives and several points of departure, will yield a manageable selection of products within a very short amount of time, claims the company. The information on the website and on the respective product fact sheets will produce exactly the counterparts required.

Schurter offers a large portfolio of appliance couplers according to IEC 60320 as well as the corresponding power supply and interconnection cords, which, for better clarity, is divided up into several functional groups such as: connectors, distribution units, power entry modules with and without filter, cord connectors or cord sets. The product search within these functional groups can be narrowed down further by selecting the corresponding product characteristics (web selectors).

More than 2,000 possible connector combination/mating options (all based on IEC connector parameters) are now available under parametric search. This allows customers to search for equipment connectors from the most diverse perspectives. Under 'General Information', users are told exactly which standard each component is in compliance with and how the terminology associated with a given product is to be interpreted.

Tyco Grounding Connector Cuts Installation Time

Tyco Electronics has introduced a grounding connector that shortens the installation time of a ground wire to a solar panel frame. The threaded connector is inserted through a hole in the frame and uses two hex nuts to help provide a reliable connection.

The connector handles six and 8AWG (13.3 and 8.4mm2) solid uninsulated copper wire. In connecting to the frame, the connector body and the one-piece lock washer nut penetrate the surface of the aluminium frame, helping to create a reliable ground path.

In the six-second short-term current test, the connector handles 1,530A with a 6AWG ground wire. With an 8AWG ground wire, a four-second test concludes that the connector handles 1,180A. In UL 486A/B pull-out testing, the connector provides 100lb (45.3kg) with a 6AWG wire and 90lb (40.8kg) with an 8AWG wire.

Tyco Announces PCB Power Connector

The Stacked ICCON power connector from Tyco Electronics increases power densities in high-end data and telecommunications equipment. With a current-carrying capacity of 50A in a compact footprint, the Stacked ICCON connector provides a quick-connect/disconnect function for space-constrained power delivery applications.

The stacked configuration provides two ports vertically stacked to preserve real estate on the board. ICCON connectors use Tyco's Crown Band contacts, a multi-fingered spring that provides a greater surface contact area, thus ensuring small millivolt drop, minimum heat generation and very low insertion and extraction forces.

Mating pin contacts are screw machined and feature silver plating. 'This connector provides a solution where space constraints do not permit the use of separate power and guide module components,' said Mike Blanchfield, global product manager for Tyco Electronics' power interconnects.

A choice of three pin lengths is available for sequencing.

The connector is compatible with many popular two-piece backplane connector systems.

Connector Offers Performance/Price Compromise

Hansford Sensors has selected an alternative 12mm connector style, the M12, as offering the best combination of performance and price. The result - today, you can specify either the standard MS series or the M12 Connector on most of their range of vibration sensors. The main advantages of the M12 connector are its smaller size and the fact that its associated cable assemblies have a tighter bend radius.

It is a well accepted and proven connector used across many industries including process control, automation and sensing. They are particularly suitable for use in vibration monitoring equipment, the IP67/68 sealing making them usable in difficult environmental conditions often found in maintenance condition monitoring applications. With its wide use in industrial electronic equipment, the cost-effective connectors and numerous cable assemblies are readily available from electrical distributors worldwide making off the shelf delivery a reality.

Hansford Sensors has applied the connectors across the HS-100, HS-100S, HS-420 and HS-421 series of vibration sensors. All models are constructed in robust welded stainless steel and offer either top or side entry for the electrical connection. The M12 mating connector is available in both a straight or right-angle version. The HS-100 sensors are industrial accelerometers offering a 100mV/g AC output with a top entry connection, whilst the HS-100S is a low profile unit with a side entry connection.

The HS-420 is a PLC accelorometer with integral circuitry providing a 4-20mA output proportional to the velocity level. The HS-421 model offers a dual output of 4-20mA for velocity and AC g suited for the many commercially available data collectors. For those needing to measure both vibration and temperature levels at the same monitoring point, Hansford Sensors has also introduced dual-output versions of the HS-100T (100mV/g output) and the HS-420T (4-20mA output) sensor models, both fitted with M12 connectors as standard.
