Tyco Adds CU Series To Power-Entry Module Range

Tyco Electronics has added the CU series to its collection of Corcom power-entry modules. The new series includes smaller versions of switched filtered and unfiltered power inlets, which are suitable for applications with panel space constraints, particularly systems designed for the 1U (1 3/4in) height equipment racks.

The CU series offers 15 filtered and eight unfiltered versions to cover a variety of applications. Shrouded quick-connect terminals eliminate the need for soldered connections, which helps reduce installation time. The series allows higher system efficiency by contributing less heat, making it suitable for applications with power or cooling limitations. The modules offer three different mounting styles: flush-mount, flange and snap-in.

Current ratings range from 1-15A and the product is UL recognised, CSA certified and VDE approved. The 15A versions tested by Underwriters Laboratories to US and Canadian standards are VDE approved for a 10A rating. The CU series power entry modules are suitable for consumer and computer electronics, telecommunications, data communications and compact industrial applications.

Tyco Offers SMT Assembly For Solid-State Lighting

Tyco Electronics has announced an RoHS-compliant G13-style SMT assembly and end-cap cover for the solid-state-lighting (SSL) industry. The product supports printed circuit boards (PCBs) and LED strip-lighting modules found in the standard T8 and T12 fluorescent LED retrofit tubes. The integrated assembly enables high-volume manufacturing of fluorescent LED retrofit tubes by allowing a quick SMT electrical connection to the PCB and a standard pin interface to fixture lamp socket (tombstone) connectors.

The product, tape-and-reel packaged to facilitate high-speed processing, is compatible with FR4 and aluminium-clad PCBs. Designed-in features include a surface-mount hold down to provide additional stability of the connector during insertion and/or extraction of the LED tube. The SMT housing material consists of UL 94 V0-rated high-temperature-resistant thermoplastic for reflow processing on automated equipment.

The end-cap cover interfaces with the connector assembly, heat sink and tube, and is packaged separately for ease of assembly. Performance characteristics include: 2A current rating, 250V DC/250V AC voltage rating, 1,500V AC dielectric withstanding voltage and a 0.5in pin centreline spacing per G13 specification. Operating temperature ranges from -40 to 120C. The product is ETL recognised to UL 8750 and UL 1993 standards.

Left/Right-Hand Plugs For Tyco Terminal Blocks

New left- and right-hand plugs have been added to Tyco's line of wire-to-board, Eurostyle terminal blocks. This product extension provides additional configurations of wire-access angles to the standard 3.5 and 3.81mm vertical and right-angle headers.

Specific applications of this product include control, input/output and field wiring. A key feature of the plugs is their multiple-wire access angles, which mate with 90 and 270deg header interfaces. Their rising, screw-clamp orientation mates to industry-standard open and closed-end headers on the same centreline spacing.

In addition, they are end-to-end stackable without loss of centreline spacing. The plugs are UL recognised and serve the industrial-control, communication-equipment and HVAC-control markets. Other product options include custom marking, printing and colour selection.

Tyco Grounding Connector Cuts Installation Time

Tyco Electronics has introduced a grounding connector that shortens the installation time of a ground wire to a solar panel frame. The threaded connector is inserted through a hole in the frame and uses two hex nuts to help provide a reliable connection.

The connector handles six and 8AWG (13.3 and 8.4mm2) solid uninsulated copper wire. In connecting to the frame, the connector body and the one-piece lock washer nut penetrate the surface of the aluminium frame, helping to create a reliable ground path.

In the six-second short-term current test, the connector handles 1,530A with a 6AWG ground wire. With an 8AWG ground wire, a four-second test concludes that the connector handles 1,180A. In UL 486A/B pull-out testing, the connector provides 100lb (45.3kg) with a 6AWG wire and 90lb (40.8kg) with an 8AWG wire.

Tyco RN73 Resistors Available From TTI

The RN73 series precision chip resistors from Tyco Electronics is now available from TTI. The range has been extended to offer resistance tolerances down to 0.01 per cent, making the devices up to 10 times more accurate than previously available models.

Designed for telecommunication, industrial and military applications, RN73 series resistors are available in a choice of packages, from 1206 down to 0402 case size. Based on nichrome thin-film technology, the devices are produced with three sputtered layers of resistive metal film. This enables stable high-frequency performance to be achieved.

Temperature coefficient of resistance values down to 10ppm/C, and even 5ppm/C, are available over a wide value range (5R1-470K) in the E96 and E24 value grids. For applications requiring higher power, the RP73 series resistors offer increased power dissipation; higher temperature capabilities (up to +155C); and increased operating voltages (200VDC) compared with the standard RN73 series.

Accurate and uniform physical dimensions facilitate automatic placement of the RN73 devices. Pack quantities are flexible, ranging from a small-volume 250 piece 7in reels up to higher volume 1000, 5000 and 10000 piece tape on reels.

Tyco Adds Header Assemblies To Val-U-Lok Family

Tyco Electronics has expanded its Val-U-Lok connector family with single-row, board-mount headers in both vertical and right-angle configurations. The header assemblies come with pre-loaded contacts and may be installed on the printed circuit board manually or automatically using robotic equipment.

All housings are polarised for easier mating and locking latches are intended to help maintain reliable connections. The Val-U-Lok connector system is a low-cost, wire-to-wire and wire-to-board connector system with a 4.2mm x 4.2mm centreline. This system can be used in a variety of applications, including the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC), vending, gaming and appliance industries.

Val-U-Lok connectors are low-cost connectors, intermateable with Amp-Duac connectors and Molex Mini-Fit Jr series connectors. The single-row headers are available in three, four and five positions. This system is available in UL 94 V-2 or UL 94 V-0 flammability-rated nylon with contacts in brass or phosphor bronze with tin or gold plating. The connector system, an RoHS-compliant product to help promote a cleaner environment, is UL component recognised and CSA certified.

Tyco Announces PCB Power Connector

The Stacked ICCON power connector from Tyco Electronics increases power densities in high-end data and telecommunications equipment. With a current-carrying capacity of 50A in a compact footprint, the Stacked ICCON connector provides a quick-connect/disconnect function for space-constrained power delivery applications.

The stacked configuration provides two ports vertically stacked to preserve real estate on the board. ICCON connectors use Tyco's Crown Band contacts, a multi-fingered spring that provides a greater surface contact area, thus ensuring small millivolt drop, minimum heat generation and very low insertion and extraction forces.

Mating pin contacts are screw machined and feature silver plating. 'This connector provides a solution where space constraints do not permit the use of separate power and guide module components,' said Mike Blanchfield, global product manager for Tyco Electronics' power interconnects.

A choice of three pin lengths is available for sequencing.

The connector is compatible with many popular two-piece backplane connector systems.
