Chipwrights Kit Provides Openembedded Support

Chipwrights has announced that its Linux software development kit provides Openembedded support for developers designing multimedia applications based on the CW5631 system-on-chip. According to the company, customers can now access thousands of open-source packages, including GTK+, Qt, the X Windows System and Java plus tools, which shorten development time and speed time-to-market.

The software development kit release is based on the Openembedded build system, which offers integration with a variety of third-party software. Openembedded is the build framework designed to create embedded Linux distributions. By leveraging the Linux open-source environment with the processing power and peripheral set in the CW5631 processor, developers can quickly release applications such as IP cameras, IPTVs, personal media players, and digital signage and networked video applications.

Based on the Linux 2.6.29 kernel, this release includes the complete kernel with all necessary device drivers for the Chipwrights hardware development kit, source code for media player, media browser and IP camera applications integrated with the Openembedded build environment. Linux 2.6.29 kernel highlights include video capture support (V4L2) for various video sources, allowing users to easily port video capture applications to the CW5631 processor, and SDIO wi-fi support for portable media players.

NXP Smart Switches Support HDMI 1.4 Specification

NXP Semiconductors has unveiled intelligent switches supporting the HDMI 1.4 specification. The NXP TDA19997 and TDA19998 smart switches support the Audio Return Channel (ARC) feature, an option introduced in the HDMI 1.4 release, which reduces the number of cables required to deliver audio upstream for processing and playback.

Building on the success of previous HDMI smart switches from NXP, the TDA19997 and TDA19998 include support for all mandatory 3D over HDMI features. NXP is the one of the first semiconductor companies to deliver silicon supporting HDMI 1.4. The Audio Return Channel specified in HDMI 1.4 enables HDTVs directly receiving audio and video content to send the audio stream to an amplification system over the HDMI cable, eliminating the need for an extra cable.

The NXP TDA19997 and TDA19998 smart switches also include built-in auto-adaptive equalisers that can handle up to four HDMI 1.4 inputs, automatically maintaining audiovisual quality over HDMI cables up to 30m in length. Their highly integrated design eliminates the need for external components, reducing the overall Bill of Materials for TV manufacturers, while delivering an enhanced viewing experience. The TDA19997 and TDA19998 are embedded with five EDID extensions for HDMI and VGA, as well as high levels of ESD protection.

The TDA19998 smart switches take advantage of NXP's F3 architecture, which guarantees fast port switching between HDMI devices while keeping a secured HDCP-protected HDMI stream at the output. The F3 architecture also enables best-in-class power efficiency of all systems in active and standby modes.

The NXP TDA19997 and TDA19998 comprise the second generation of NXP's HDMI smart switches, and are part of a portfolio of scalable solutions for the digital home, enabling TV makers to target a broad audience. The TDA19997 and TDA19998 are pin-to-pin compatible with previous generation smart switches from NXP and provide TV makers with flexibility in adapting to end-user demand. Engineering samples of the TDA19997 are available immediately from NXP.

SRB bearings and housings may be mounted in a variety of Revolvo support units according to the application and loading constraints. A number of variants are available as standard types with other unit types available on request.

SRB can also offer a design and manufacturing facility to produce bespoke units to cover more specialised applications. SRB flange units also allow bearings to be mounted against horizontal or vertical faces. The use of Grade 250 cast iron ensures a durable unit.

Hanger units are a compact unit used for supporting screw conveyors or similar equipment. Take-up Units are sliding units that can be used to tension conveyor and elevator systems. Both pull and push types are available.

In-line Adapters Now Support 1Gbps Networks

Napatech today extended its In-line range of adapters to support 1Gbps networks. The NT4E In-line and NT4E-STD In-line adapters provide full line-rate throughput at 1Gbps with zero packet loss, no matter the packet size. This allows vendors of network appliances, such as intrusion-prevention systems (IPS) or WAN Optimization solutions, to build high performance products based on cost-effective, standard server platforms.

Erik Norup, president of Napatech, said: 'It is no longer necessary to build proprietary hardware to achieve high performance. 'Cost-effective standard servers can be used with the NT4E and NT4E-STD, providing the data-processing horsepower and throughput to guarantee that all traffic can be analysed at full line-rate, in real-time.' There will still be a need for in-line network appliances that monitor, analyse and secure the 1Gbps links into 10Gbps networks.

One can expect that these links will be fully utilised, requiring full 1Gbps line-rate performance. The NT4E In-line and NT4E-STD In-line adapters are ideal for OEM network-appliance vendors in the network-performance monitoring, network test, network security, financial trading and policy enforcement markets, especially those that require full 1Gbps throughput.

The NT4E-STD In-line adapter is suitable for customers that need accurate time-stamping and full line-rate reception and transmission of 1Gbps data traffic with zero packet loss. The NT4E In-line adapter extends these features with advanced protocol and flow recognition, filtering and intelligent distribution of traffic processing on up to 32CPU cores. An extensive software suite is provided for ease of integration, supporting Linux, FreeBSD and Windows.
