ITT Fibre-Optic Connectors Suit Harsh Environments

ITT Interconnect Solutions has launched the PHD 38999 range of fibre-optic connectors. According to the company, this interconnect system is suitable for harsh environments that could group multiple fibre-optic terminations in a rugged circular connector profile with precision alignment and optical performance features. Initially developed for high-speed backplane systems for telecommunications switching, the PHD termination and connector system delivers a high-density package with good optical signal transmission performance, according to the company.

Providing a common solution for all fibre sizes, ITT-ICS also designed the PHD system for packaging flexibility, making it suitable for many Mil Spec and standard connector envelopes - both circular and rectangular. The PHD product range is available as complete, custom, fibre-optic cable assemblies. Suitable for demanding harsh-environment applications, including defence, avionics and tactical communications, PHD metal connectors are compatible with M38999 outside dimensions and feature an all-metallic back shell with a sealing grommet and a removable alignment insert assembly. Sizes 20, 24, 28 and 36 are available and a shielding kit is included.

ITT Introduces Packer Feedthrough System

The BIW field-attachable packer feedthrough system launched by ITT Interconnect Solutions is designed to provide a faster method of passing power cables through packers. Consisting of a field-attachable feedthrough connector, a mating attachable cable connector, a cross-over adapter and related hardware, this system allows the connector to be installed on the top side of a packer using a cross-over adapter, eliminating the need for splicing of down-hole cables.

Potential stress on the cable is eliminated as the packer feedthrough includes a completely variable threaded adjustment system, allowing vertical adjustment of up to 3in (76mm). When appropriate, it is possible to install the termination contacts on the cable conductors before the cable is passed through the packer. This may reduce the amount of work an installer is required to carry out in a vertical position over an open well.

Electrical specifications include voltage ratings of 5,000V AC, 140A current, pressure up to 5,000psig and maximum conductor temperature of 350F (175C). The field attachable packer feedthrough system has a maximum diameter of 2.6in (66.04mm); length above the packer with round cable is 26.4in to 29.5in (672mm to 748mm), and with flat cable 30.4in to 33.4in (772mm to 848mm).

ITT Field-Attachable PCCs Join Down-Hole Cables

ITT Interconnect is offering modified versions of its Field Attachable Power Connectors that can be used in place of splices for joining down-hole power cables for electric, submersible pumps. According to the company, BIW Power Cable Connectors (PCCs) can save significant rig time, increasing efficiency and lowering costs.

The field-attachable ITT PCCs can be used to join round and flat downhole cables up to AWG 1. Installation of the PCCs is similar to that of existing ITT BIW field attachable connectors. The use of PCCs in place of splicing can save up to three hours of rig time. The BIW Power Cable Connector has been engineered to perform reliably in harsh hydrocarbon environments, with robust internal components housed in heavy-duty steel for long run life.

Outer connector bodies have been designed with the smallest possible size profiles, yet retain their mechanical strength. Mid-joint protectors for 4.5, 3.5, 2.875 and 2.375in tubing sizes provide mechanical protection for installed Power Cable Connectors and are available separately. Connectors are rated at 5,000V AC for up to 140A, depending on cable size. Pressure and temperature rating is 5,000psig at 149C (300F).

ITT Introduces XLR Audio Connectors

ITT Interconnect Solutions has developed a range of XLR audio connectors designed to offer high performance and support the latest advancements in digital equipment. Suitable for a variety of digital audio cables, these XLR connectors are designed to withstand extreme use in the field, claiming to ensure excellent RFI and EMI shielding to minimise audio distortion, while shock-absorbing, rubber-insulated receptacles reduce vibration and electrical noise.

XLR connectors feature a quick disconnect latch lock and are available in configurations of two to seven positions, with reliable, precision-machined contacts and lightweight aluminium shells. Multiple plating options are available and the range is RoHS compliant.

XLR connectors are suitable for many analogue and digital applications and industries, including TV cameras, amplifiers, mixers, microphones and recording equipment; medical instruments; and industrial control devices.
