Floor Space Added At Processing And Packaging Show

Reed Exhibitions has increased the available floor space at Total Processing and Packaging 2010 as companies continue to sign up to participate at the UK event. A further 745.5m of floor space is now available, according to the organiser. The first allocation of additional space that was released at the start of the year has been filled and has led to the doubling in size of the Packaging Innovation Hub, which will focus on packaging materials, containers, pack design and marketing, smart and intelligent packaging and sustainable solutions.

Companies taking stands in the hub include Artenius PET Packaging, Avery Denison, BCP Fluted Packaging, Clarke Rubicon, Plastique, Sleeve Solutions and Tinplate Products. Another development resulting from the increased floor area is the new Robotics and Industrial Vision Pavilion in association with BARA and UKIVA. The pavilion will feature the latest technology solutions that enable businesses to increase productivity while also delivering efficiency savings.

Further highlights of the exhibition will include: a series of dedicated free-to-attend seminars in both the Packaging Innovation and Interphex hubs; and the Design Challenge, where designers and pack and machinery manufacturers work together to explore opportunities for the creation of products, market applications and consumer experiences.

Total Processing and Packaging 2010 is scheduled to take place at the NEC in Birmingham on 25-27 May. Visitor registration, which will enable fast entry into the exhibition on the day, is now open via the event's website. The site also contains information about the exhibition, including travel and accommodation advice and corporate and product details from individual exhibitors.

Mott To Show Porous-Metal Products At MDandM West

Mott will display filtration products, flow control solutions and porous-metal technology at the MDandM West tradeshow, which is due to take place in Anaheim, California, on 9-11 February 2010. According to the company, which will be found on Booth 3,185 at the event, products using porous metal offer good performance, a long life and accuracy.

Some products currently utilising porous metal include various implantable devices, filters to prevent the plugging of catheters, drug-delivery devices, medical instrumentation, sparging devices for cell-culture processing and gas-flow-restrictor devices for gas delivery in life-critical systems. Mott's products are made using a variety of metal alloys to meet the requirements of several demanding applications.

The primary alloys used for medical devices are titanium and 316L stainless steels. Porous metal also offers a number of environmental benefits, according to the company; for example, mott-sintered porous-metal media can be completely recycled.

Webinar To Show Benefits Of Axstream Software

Softinway will host the free webinar 'Improving Axial Turbine Flow Path Efficiency Between Overhauls: Strategy for 2010' on 17 December. This webinar is dedicated to power station and airline engineers that want to improve the efficiency of turbomachinery during overhauls. At the presentation, the Softinway team will showcase the Axstream software suite and its ability to define optimal overhaul intervals, replace components without sacrificing efficiency and minimise retrofitting costs.

The contents for the steam-turbine section of the webinar will include: life cycle, typical deterioration factors, steam-turbine HP cylinder simulation in Axstream with estimation of deterioration factors, investigation of efficiency changing and investigation of erosion of the last stage. The contents for the aircraft-engine section will include: typical performance-deterioration mechanisms, engine performance simulation, investigation of aero-engine efficiency, fuel consumption and on-wing life.

The contents for the steam-turbine retrofitting section will include: comparison of redesign and retrofitting methods and the benefits of retrofitting. After the presentation, turbomachinery design experts from Softinway will be available for a question-and-answer session.

FMA Co-Sponsors Fabtech/AWS Welding Show

The Fabtech International and AWS Welding Show, including Metalform, co-sponsored by the FMA, will take place in Chicago's McCormick Place from November 15-18.

The event will feature metal fabricating, forming, tube and pipe, stamping, thermal spraying, laser and welding technologies. In addition to the exhibits, the show will host over 100 technical and non-technical educational sessions and a number of events available to all attendees.
