cDAQ Modules Provide Signal-Conditioning Network

HBM has announced the release of its Somat cDAQ rugged, mobile CAN-based data-acquisition modules. At 35 x 217 x 50mm, the compact cDAQ modules provide a flexible distributed network of HBM signal conditioning in any environment and weather condition. Engineered to operate within temperatures ranges of -40 to 125C with an IP67 protection class rating, the compact cDAQ modules allow users to take measurements directly in difficult test objects.

These can include engine enclosures, gearboxes, pumps, power generation and many industrial applications. This reduces installation time, cabling and test setup while lowering overall product testing costs. The flexible cDAQ modules are compatible with any CAN ISO 11898 2.0B-based system or vehicle network and have a selectable baud rate from 20kbps to 1Mbps. Connecting multiple modules through the CAN bus allows for nearly unlimited channel counts, covering distances up to 250M. cDAQ modules are powered from a DC power source from 8 to 36V.

Once power is applied to the first module, it is distributed through the rest of the network. Although well matched with any CAN network, cDAQ modules are optimally designed to interface with the HBM SoMat eDAQ or eDAQlite rugged, mobile data-acquisition systems. cDAQ modules are available in 16-channel isolated thermocouple configurations, cDAQ-ITC, for K-, J- or T-type thermocouples. Each channel has individual cold junction compensation fully isolated up to 500V, with an accuracy of +/-0.5C.

Selectable sample rates are available for each channel from 0.1 to 15Hz. The cDAQ-ITC also has digital and analogue filtering to remove high-frequency signal components above 50Hz and notches at 50 and 60Hz to prevent aliasing at the power-line frequency bands.

Teseq Offers Automated Coupling/Decoupling Network

Teseq has released an automated three-phase coupling/decoupling network (CDN) for EFT and surge testing. The CDN 3063 provides safe, reliable operation in a range of test setups, including higher-current-level and three-phase equipment-under-test (EUT) testing. To prevent damage to internal components, the CDN 3063 comes standard with over-temperature protection, which allows short-term operation at current exceeding the nominal rating.

A phase rotation indicator in the three-phase models shows a correctly sequenced power connection for safe EUT operation. The new system meets IEC requirements for EUT currents over 16A and ANSI specifications for special coupling modes and pulse amplitude control, making it fully compliant with both industry standards. Available in a burst-only configuration (CDN 3063-B32), with surge function only (CDN 3063-S32) or in a combined model that provides both (CDN 3063-C32), the modular CDN 3063 can be upgraded to protect a user's initial investment and adapts to changing test environments.

The CDN 3063 couples burst and surge pulses in one-, two- or three-phase power mains up to 480V with a current range up to 32A that incorporates the new IEC standard's provision for testing EUTs with high power consumption. The standard defines three classes of filter inductance for current ranges: up to 25A, 25-60A and 60-100A. Reduced decoupling inductances in series with the EUT power connection are used in order to minimise series-voltage losses with higher-current EUTs.

The CDN can couple EFT pulses specified in IEC 61000-4-4 Ed2, the combination wave pulse defined in IEC 61000-4-5 and the ring wave pulse from IEC 61000-4-12, as well as the special amplitude control pulse from ANSI C62.45. The CDN 3063 utilises the latest electronic component technology to measure and track the mains voltage and simultaneously control the pulse phase angle and amplitude. When combined with Teseq's NSG 3060 burst generator, the CDN 3063 fulfils the coupling requirements designated by ANSI C62.41, which requires a constant peak voltage amplitude for any EUT mains voltage and phase angle.

The CDN 3063 can also be used with Teseq's NSG 3040 burst generators to increase the generator's effectiveness and enable its use in higher-current-level or three-phase EUT applications. The AC/DC EUT current range is 3 x 32A continuous, 3 x 40A for approximately 35 minutes and 3 x 50A for about 10 minutes. The CDN 3063 weighs 43kg (94.8lb) and measures 449mm (17.7in) in width, 310.5mm (12.25in) in height and 565mm (22.2in) in depth.

Network Appliance Features Seven Ethernet Ports

Lanner Electronics has announced the release of the FW-8755, a 1U rack-mount, Intel CPU-based appliance equipped with seven Ethernet ports and a Lanner Ethernet Module slot. This platform targets the mainstream inline network security segment, focusing on applications such as UTM and Firewall. While classified as a mainstream network appliance, the FW-8755 offers high-end customisation with the addition of a Lanner 8800 series Ethernet Module.

Usually reserved for only the enterprise series of appliances, these 10 different Lanner modules offer two to eight LAN ports with copper, fibre and bypass options. In combination to the seven onboard Ethernet ports, the FW-8755 can have a maximum of 15 LAN ports. Onboard there are six Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports and one FE port, controlled by the Intel 822574L and the Intel 82562 chipsets. Each pair of the six GbE ports support bypass. The additional RJ45 port can be used as an FE or as an IPMI/IPKVM port for in-band management - allowing system administrators to monitor and manage the platform through an internet connection.

For the CPU, the FW-8755 has a LGA775 socket that is compatible to the Intel Core 2 Quad, 2 Duo, Pentium DC, Celeron DC and the Celeron Processor 440. Two DIMM sockets support up to 8GB DDR2 memory, and there is space for 2in x 2.5in hard drives or a single 3.5in hard drive. There is also a Compactflash socket for flash storage. The FW-8755 also has a front LCM panel, dual USB and a RJ45 Console port.

Austriamicrosystems Unveils In-Vehicle-Network ICs

Austriamicrosystems has launched two in-vehicle-network ICs, the AS8520 and AS8530. The AS8520 is dedicated to LIN slaves, which can be found in car doors, car roof modules, seat modules or similar applications providing the transceiver, diagnosis and backup register access, as well as two relay drivers and a resistive attenuator.

The AS8530 is a general-purpose companion IC for LIN slaves providing the transceiver, a LDO and a shared pin microcontroller interface with window watchdog inside an eight-pin package. The AS8520 provides a LIN 2.1 transceiver with more than 6kV ESD IEC61000-4-2 capability on bus pin, a low drop out linear voltage regulator, for up to 60mA load, from a nominal 6-18V supply voltage with over-voltage capability up to 42V.

It also features two low side relay drivers and a resistive attenuator with disable switch for power saving. A four-wire microcontroller serial interface for device configuration, window watchdog trigger, diagnosis read out and read/write of eight continuously supplied backup registers are additional features of the AS8520.

The AS8530 is a stripped-down version of the AS8520 without the application-specific relay driver and attenuator, providing two-wire shared-pin microcontroller interfaces to provide the same digital features as the AS8520 in an eight-pin package. Both circuits are designed for very low quiescent current of typically 36uA in standby mode.

These LIN companion ICs are claimed to provide good diagnosis capability through the microcontroller interfaces. Continuously powered 64-bit backup memory and highly secure non-latching ESD clamp structure on the bus pin are additional highlights. Both devices are available with 5V or 3.3V regulated output voltage. The AS8520 is available in a 24-pin 6 x 6mm QFN package and the AS8530 is available in an eight-pin epSOIC package. Both ICs are suitable for operating environments from -40C to +125C.
