ON Semiconductor Expands Range Of Clock Drivers

ON Semiconductor has expanded its range of clock drivers with the release of the NB7L585, NB7L585R, NB7V585M and NB7V586M differential 2:1 mux input to 1:6 devices. It has also introduced the NB6HQ14M and NB7HQ14M 1:4 fan-out clock/data drivers with equalisation. The NB6HQ14M and the NB7HQ14M integrate a selectable equaliser receiver into a differential 1:4 CML clock driver.

When placed in series with a data path operating at up to 6.5Gbit per second (Gbps) or 10Gbps, the inputs will compensate the degraded signal and output four identical CML copies of the original input signal. The serial data rate is thereby increased by reducing the inter-symbol interference (ISI) caused by losses in the copper interconnect or long cables. The NB7L585, the NB7L585R, the NB7V585M and the NB7V586M are the newest members of the Gigacomm range, representing a new 2:1:6 function integrating a 2:1 mux with a 1:6 fan-out buffer.

The NB7L585 and the NB7L585R are 2.5V/3.3V devices with either low-voltage positive emitter coupled logic (LVPECL) output or reduced swing emitter coupled logic (RSECL) output of 400mV peak to peak, respectively. The NB7L585 operates up to 5GHz or 8Gbps and the NB7L585R operates up to 7GHz or 10Gbps. The NB7V585M is an ultra-low-voltage device operating from a 1.8V/2.5V power supply. The NB7V586M operates from an ultra-low 1.8V supply and offers the six outputs configured as three banks of two differential pairs.

Each bank of outputs has the flexibility to be powered by any combination of either 1.8V or 1.2V supplies. Both devices operate up to clock/data rates of 6GHz/10Gbps. These clock drivers are suitable for use in Sonet, Gigabit Ethernet, fibre-channel, backplane and other clock/data distribution applications. The ambient operating temperature of each of these devices covers -40C to +85C. Prices for the NB7L585, the NB7L585R, the NB7V585M, the NB7V586M, the NB6HQ14M and the NB7HQ14M start from USD5.25 (GBP3.24) in 1,000-unit quantities. They are all offered in low-profile 3 x 3mm 16-pin or 5 x 5mm 32-pin lead-free QFN packages. Samples are available now.

Gefran Expands Vector Inverter Range

Gefran has expanded its ADV200 line of high-performance, field-oriented control (FOC) vector inverters, adding three larger frame sizes with heavy duty overload power now available up to 1.2MW. The modular range now includes four panel-mount and three cabinet-housed drives for continuous service, constant torque power output applications from 0.75kW to 355kW at 400-480VAC.

With heavy duty and light duty overload management and with a choice of open loop, closed loop with speed feedback, or V/F control, the ADV200 range provides maximum application flexibility with up to three front-mounted option card slots for a mixed combination of encoder and fieldbus interfaces or I/O expansion cards. The ADV200 is aimed at system builders and OEMs requiring an inverter drive platform that is able to meet the needs of the widest possible range of speed control applications.

Based on a high-performance 32-bit microcontroller providing a closed-loop speed regulation up to 0.01 per cent and a speed range of 1:1000, the ADV200 includes three levels of programming and control options as standard. A built-in alphanumeric keypad with a backlit four-line text display can provide a means for direct parameter programming or for simple control. For applications requiring an intermediate level of control, Gefran's GF-Express configuration tool features an integrated oscilloscope and tools for fast set-up and application commissioning, plus a simple integrated PLC for straightforward I/O control. For demanding machine control and application integration, an IEC61131-3 sequential PLC is included with Gefran's MDPLC advanced development software.

To allow integration with factory automation systems, standard fieldbus options include CANopen, Devicenet, Profibus-DP as well as Gefran's GD-Net real-time fast Ethernet for high-speed synchronisation between ADV200's or servo-controlled axes from Gefran's XVy-EV range. As standard, each drive is fitted with two analogue inputs and outputs, 6 +2 digital inputs and outputs and two relay outputs. Separate machine control expansion cards are available in various digital and analogue I/O combinations. An RS485 serial input is also available that may be optionally modified for Modbus RTU, to provide peer-to-peer or multidrop connection for multi-axis systems.

The advanced ADV200 also includes safety features such as Omega clamp for 360 EMC cable shielding, an external 24VDC power supply for keep-alive on mains input loss, and an optional safety card allowing the motor to be disabled without the use of a safety contactor on the drive output - in compliance with EN954-1 category 3. Features for fast installation include removable easy-access screw terminal connectors and front-facing option card slots, plus the keypad is removable. For maximum reliability the ADV200 also features integrated DC line chokes and input filters for full EMC compliance EN61800-3.

Synqor Expands Milqor Converter And Filter Range

Synqor has expanded its Milqor product line of 270V input DC/DC converters and complementary EMI filters, which has been designed specifically for high-reliability applications. The MQFL-270 series of DC/DC converters utilises Synqor's high-efficiency synchronous rectification technology to achieve efficiency levels of more than 88 per cent. This effectively reduces the dissipated heat by half as compared to other 120W converters in the industry-standard full-size (FL) package. Fully encased using Synqor's Qorseal technology, the MQFL-270 series is constructed to withstand and survive the harsh environments and long-term storage requirements of avionics, missile and other flight applications.

Hi-Rel MQFL-270 DC/DC converters operate at full power from -55C to +125C and accept continuous input voltages of 155-400V, while permitting higher transient input voltages of 475V for one second. Single-output modules are offered in 11 versions ranging from 1.5V to 28V, including 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, 5.0V, 6.0V, 7.5V, 9.0V, 12V, 15V and 28V. Single-output power and current levels are as high as 120W and 40A respectively. Using the active current sharing function, an unlimited number of single-output converters can be paralleled to achieve kilowatts of power.

Dual-output converters are also available with output voltages of +/-5V, +/-12V and +/-15V, with the capability of providing up to 80 per cent power from either output. The series includes fixed-frequency switching, no opto-isolators, remote sense, clock synchronisation, primary- and secondary-side enable, continuous short-circuit protection, input under-voltage lockout and input over-voltage shutdown. The Hi-Rel MQME-270 EMI filter modules rated at 320W (2A) provide more than 80dB of differential attenuation (and more than 60dB of common-mode attenuation) at 500kHz.

Used together, Milqor DC/DC converters and EMI filters permit compliance with MIL-STD-704(A-F), RTCA/DO-160-E (Section 16), MIL-STD-1275B and DEF-STAN 61-5(6/5), as well as MIL-STD-461(C-E) and RTCA/DO-160E (Section 22, Lightning). Synqor's Qorseal packaging approach provides a conduction-cooled mechanical assembly around an SMT-constructed power circuit that has a low profile and is lightweight and shielded. Its non-hybrid construction has been designed per NAVSO-P3641-A guidelines, with all components derated per MIL-HDBK-1547A.

They are qualified to MIL-STD-810F, as well as to Synqor's internal first article (consistent with MIL-STD-883F), storage survivability and ongoing life test procedures. As a result, the Milqor product line will survive the severe long-term storage and operational environments encountered in military, avionic and high-reliability applications. Sample quantities are available now and production quantities are available with a standard lead time of 12-16 weeks after receipt of order (ARO), depending on screening options.

Newport Spectra-Physics Expands Hippo Laser Family

Newport Corporation's Spectra-Physics Lasers Division has added the Hippo 532-14 to its Hippo family of Q-switched diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) industrial lasers. The Hippo 532-14 provides 14W of 532nm output at 100kHz with a short pulse width of less than 30ns.

Used for solar thin-film scribing applications, the laser is suitable for the high-speed, multi-beam scribing of P2 and P3 layers in thin-film a-Si and CdTe photovoltaic structures. Scribe speeds in excess of 12m/s have been achieved on tandem-junction a-Si P2 layers with isolation lines 65 microns wide and 2.5 microns deep. Features of the Hippo 532-14 include its short pulse width (less than 30ns at 100kHz) and high peak power (up to 16kW at 50kHz). Both help to reduce undesired thermal effects such as heat-affected zones, material recast and the micro-cracking of a substrate.

The pulse-to-pulse stability of the Hippo 532-14 at higher pulse repetition rates (up to 200kHz) translates to good scribe consistency at high processing speeds on solar panels, according to the company. The TEM00 beam profile and beam quality (M2 less than 1.3) translates to a larger depth of field for the Hippo 532-14, making it more forgiving of variations in glass substrate flatness and surface irregularities.

With proprietary Eternalign permanent optics mounting technology and field-replaceable key components such as diodes, fibres and harmonic modules, the Hippo 532-14 is rugged and has a low cost of operation. The Hippo 532-14 laser was showcased at Laser World of Photonics 2009 on 15-18 June in Munich, Germany.

Schmitt Expands AEM Sensor Range

Schmitt has added the Fluid Acoustic Emission sensor to its range of acoustical emission monitoring (AEM) sensors, which monitor grinding-wheel processes. The Fluid AE sensor is ideal for situations where direct acoustic contact is required during the grinding process, for example where machine design, high-frequency bearing, mechanical or electromagnetic-noise prevent the use of other types of AE sensor.

The Fluid AE sensor uses the existing oil or water-based grinding-machine coolant with a separate feed from the cutting stream directed at the component or dresser. The noise of the grinding wheel touching the component or diamond is then transmitted back up the coolant stream to the AE sensor and detected by the Schmitt electronics within one millisecond. User benefits include elimination of the grinding-gap time in the grind cycle, notification and prevention of machine-crash conditions, automatic quality monitoring of wheel dressing and machine positional control.

The AEMS system allows rapid and automatic grinding-wheel in-feed, right up to the point of initial contact with a new part loaded in the machine. The system can automatically detect the initial contact and quickly report this event to the machine control, stopping the wheel in-feed without operator intervention. This system has achieved typical cycle-time savings of up to 20 per cent. The AEMS system can standalone or be added to any SBS grinding-wheel balancer controller, providing two sensor-input sockets.

A four-channel SBS controller can give up to eight inputs from eight different AE sensors. Data can be downloaded via a 0 - 10V analogue output to a PC or external data-logger for QA purposes. Schmitt's acoustic sensors are easy to retro fit, resistant to grinding-machine coolants and grinding paste and give reaction speeds faster than traditional methods of spindle load or current monitoring.

Absopulse Expands RWY Series Of DC/DC Converters

The RWY 30 is a recent addition to Absopulse Electronics's RWY Series of DC/DC converters for low-power railway applications. This 30W unit is housed in an ultra-compact, lightweight, 57mm x 56mm x 147mm chassis. Full encapsulation in a thermally conductive MIL-specification silicon rubber compound ensures immunity to shock, vibration and moisture, according to the company.

The RWY 30 operates at full specification over a -40C to +70C cold-plate temperature range when installed on a heat-sinking surface. This rugged, low-power converter delivers single outputs or 12VDC or 24VDC and accepts single DC-input voltages of 24VDC, 36VDC, 48VDC, 72VDC, 96VDC or 110VDC with wide input ranges. Other input and output voltages are available on request.

The unit features full electronic protection and up to 90 per cent efficiency, depending on the input/output configuration. The RWY 30 meets the stringent requirements of EN 50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock. It also meets EN 55022 Class B EMI conducted and radiated with wide margins and is designed to meet IEC 61373 Categories 1 A and B and Category 2 shock and vibration standards.

Inmoco Expands Servotecnica Slip-Ring Range

Inmoco has introduced two robust Servotecnica commercial slip rings that offer the flexibility for up to 96 connections (216 upon demand). They also feature high voltage/current operation, low temperature working down to -40C and the ability to operate at speeds up to 800rpm. The new SRH 60135 and SRH 70155 series slip rings are designed for use in any system requiring the transmission of electrical and/or power signals to an intermittently or continuously rotating shaft.

This typically includes equipment such as video systems, robots and downhole inspection equipment, manufacturing and process control equipment, filling machines, medical equipment and packaging machines. Both series of SRH slip rings are available in many standard configurations; offer a high rating life of 10 (to the power of seven) revolutions (nominal speed 250rpm); and the facility of from six to 96 circuits, with up to 216 as an option. Their reduced size - the SRH 60135 is the smaller of the two - allows installation into compact systems, while a combination of low friction torque, high insulation resistance and a tough ABS housing guarantees high operating reliability and long life.

The design of the SRH series slip rings allows low peripheral-speed between brushes and rings, as well as reduced dynamic imbalance; the combination of these factors results in low wear. Noble metals and a new technology allow multiple contact points between bushes and ring, which reduces electrical noise and interference between circuits. All of these features make the SRH series suited to the transmission of critical signals, such as high-frequency signals (for example video and fieldbuses), low currents and voltages (strain gauges, thermocouples and measuring equipment).

Both SRH series are available for use with 600V AC/V DC voltages; they are IP51 protected (IP65 optional) against the ingress of dust and dripping water and offer an operating temperature range of -40C to +80C. The SRH series can be easily customised upon demand, in terms of connector types and cables, and also the number of circuits available from the SRH units.

Addon Expands Servo Controller I/O

QuickSilver Controls has developed a simple 24V breakout that can be attached directly to the SMI port of a SilverDust MG, IG, IGF, IGC or IG8 servomotor controller, providing access to power, communications (RS232/485) and I/O. The breakout also converts the controller's TTL level I/O to five 24V isolated inputs and two 24V open collector outputs.

With a list price of US $75, this breakout is an easy way of adding extra 24V I/O to a SilverDust controller.
