WM30-96 Analyser Provides Bacnet-IP Communication

Carlo Gavazzi has brought out the WM30-96 smart modular power analyser, which offers faster communications for building automation networks. It features load-monitoring, measurement and comprehensive alarm management in a compact plug-and-play modular format that streamlines installation and simplifies inventory management. Starting with a base unit that provides the display, touch-panel, power supply and measurement inputs, users can then add up to three slimline modules to the rear for alarms, pulse outputs, analogue I/O and data communications interfaces.

It is the first modular power analyser to provide Bacnet-IP communication. Applications run from cost allocation and control, through complex cost and power analysis, to advanced energy and power analysis for solar energy and power generation. A mono LCD occupies much of the base unit's 96mm-square frontage. All necessary information is available at a glance on the front panel's customisable home page, which is readily configured by the user. Values of actual power against installed power are continuously displayed to provide immediate alerts to potential power overloads.

The WM30-96 offers high accuracy for energy metering, together with 10 digits for total energy counting, ensuring ideal performance for medium- and high-voltage applications. High contrast, white backlighting and wide viewing angles ensure that information is easy to see from any position. Touch-panel technology gives major advantages over traditional push-buttons for selecting from the four main variable areas: energy metering; current-voltage-frequency metering; power and power-factor metering; and harmonic analysis. FFT harmonic analysis is performed up to the 32nd harmonic (current and voltage), ensuring dependable measurements for load control and alarming.

There are four freely configurable virtual alarms and a real-time clock function is built in. The base unit is powered by a universal 18 to 60V AC/DC or 90 to 260AC/V DC supply. Front protection is provided to IP65, NEMA4x and NEMA12 standards. Carlo Gavazzi's use of advanced-component technology has resulted in a 30 per cent space-saving behind the panel compared with competing analysers. While the base module alone acts as a simple monitoring device, the meter is completed by stacking low-profile modules on the rear of the base unit. Up to three flat modules can be added: one each of type A, B and C. Dual-channel relay output (SPDT) and dual-channel static output (AC/DC Opto-Mos) modules are type A.

Type B designates analogue outputs, including a dual-channel 20mA current module and dual channel 10V DC voltage device. Data communications facilities are added using type C modules: currently available are a fast RS485/RS232 serial port, Modbus over Ethernet TCP/IP interface and a Bacnet-IP port. Depth behind the panel is just 50mm, with a single-option module. The WM30-96 carries CE marking and UL certifications.

Process Analyser Offers Application Flexibility

The Applikon Analytical ADI 2040 process analyser from Metrohm is a multipurpose wet chemical analyser designed to offer flexibility and withstand harsh environments. The analyser uses techniques including titration, colorimetry and dynamic standard addition with ion-selective electrodes. The analyser's rugged hardware and the possibility to do automatic calibration and cleaning result in a 99.5 per cent up-time, according to Metrohm.

Its versatility allows the incorporation of multiple analyses and multiple sample streams on one analyser, resulting in low cost per analysis/sample. The controller makes it possible to run up to three independent analyses simultaneously. Reagent usage is minimised by using low-volume measuring cells. The ADI 2040 has a modular wet part with 20 uniform positions for a variety of modules and accessories. It can be adapted to almost any application.

In the electronic part, the same modular concept is used, so that the I/O cards for control of the wet part and external communication (maximum 20) can be configured to the needs of the user. The ADI 2040 can be loaded with several analysis packages by flash card and can therefore be adapted to specific process analysis requirements. The ADI 2040 can handle four (different) electrodes or sensors; extension to eight is possible. The possibility to choose a combination of methods means that in many cases one single ADI 2040 will fulfil all analysis requirements.

M+P Upgrades SO Analyser

The SO analyser is M+P International's real-time analyser for noise and vibration measurement, analysis and reporting in the field and in the lab. The latest SO analyser Rev 3.3 supports M+P's new portable, fan-less 4-/8-channel VibPilot front-end with 24-bit resolution and USB 2.0 interfacing. Full support comprises all native sample frequencies from 1024Hz to 102.4kHz, input modes including AC/DC floating or grounded and ICP user selectable on each channel.

Two tacho inputs with 32-bit high-speed up/down counters are included for measuring synchronous signals on rotating machines. A sound quality analysis module has been added to the new software revision. The basis of the SO analyser sound quality analysis is Zwicker loudness that provides standardised methods for this type of product refinement.

The implemented functions, which are available both as online and post-processed analysis, can be viewed as 2D, 3D, or as colour maps (spectrograms) for further analysis. The SO analyser Rev 3.3 introduces other capabilities including full operation under the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system, the least squares fit analysis tool, percentile calculations and amplitude distribution statistics.
