Miller Unveils EFI Engine-Driven Welder Generators

Miller Electric has introduced two electronic fuel-injected (EFI) engine-driven twin-cylinder welder generators: the Trailblazer 302 EFI and the Bobcat 250 EFI. The company claims that replacing the carburettor with EFI improves fuel economy by up to 27 per cent, reduces harmful emissions by up to 33 per cent and eliminates carburettor icing. Miller also increased the weld output and generator power (12kW peak/10.5kW continuous watts) on both machines to provide contractors with an energy- and cost-efficient machine with improved performance over carburettor-based models.

Replacing carburettors with EFI reduces hydrocarbon and nitrogen-oxide emissions by 33 per cent and carbon-monoxide emissions by 27 per cent, while also saving as much as USD1,000 (GBP616) per year (assuming 25 gallons per week at USD3 per gallon) in fuel costs. The Trailblazer 302 EFI and the Bobcat 250 EFI are both multi-process machines that provide strong stick, MIG, flux-cored, AC/DC TIG and gouging capabilities. The Trailblazer 302 welds 80A at a 100 per cent duty cycle (300A/wire welding), while the Bobcat 250 welds 250A at a 100 per cent duty cycle (275A for wire welding).

Running Miller welders off either machine's generator power further transforms these engine drives into multi-arc systems that increase productivity while lowering fuel use and the cost-per-arc ownership, according to the company. All rated outputs are tested at 104F. Both machines feature a protective armour similar to that used in automotive bumpers and tractor hoods. This offers high-impact resistance in all temperatures and is chemical resistant. EFI eliminates carburettor icing and facilitates starting and performance in all climates.

Hobart Welder Delivers 30 To 250A Output

Hobart Welding Products has introduced the Ironman 230, a DC/CV, single-phase, MIG/FCAW welder that delivers a 30 to 250A output. It is suitable for a range of applications, from light industrial and MRO to body-shop, heavy-duty farm/ranch uses and hobby applications. The Ironman 230 replaces Hobart's Ironman 210 and 250, combining their features in a single unit suited for welding mild-steel material ranging from 24 gauge to 1/2in.

The welder can also be optimised for aluminum welding by connecting Hobart's optional DP-3545-20 spool gun. New features include a softer, sweeter arc and seven additional voltage taps for a total of 12 to improve arc starts and minimise weld clean up. A more robust cast-aluminum two-roll wire-drive system replaces the previous plastic-drive system and a patented hub design requires no tools to adjust for a variety of spool sizes (1, 2, 10 and 45lb) and ensures perfect alignment of the spool and feed head.

Additional features include two cable hangers mounted on the unit's side to keep the power cord, MIG gun cable, work lead and welding hood organised and out of the way, and an onboard storage compartment for contact tips and nozzles. A built-in running gear/cylinder rack is standard.
