MCP specialists will be available to discuss training and consultancy at the upcoming Maintec 2010 event. The company will show how effective maintenance can reduce business costs, with a typical return on investment of 200 per cent within two years. Newly launched is a series of two-day courses entitled 'Maintenance Explained for Operators, Technicians and Maintenances Staff', which can help to develop a lean manufacturing strategy.

These are run in parallel with 'Managing Plant Reliability' courses, which cover the new EC machinery directives. MCP can provide specialist advice for those interested in improving the performance of their operatives in these sectors. The aim is to multi-skill operators and technicians to undertake maintenance, electrical and mechanical tasks safely. For the technician and the engineer, specific technical training courses are offered at centres around the UK.

City and Guilds mechanical-to-electrical-conversion courses are also available. Other courses include PLCs, control and instrumentation and 17th Edition electrical training. The speaker session at the seminars will be given by Peter Jackson and is entitled 'What about maintenance skills?'. Peter Jackson, consultant at MCP, will explain how a training framework will help deliver manufacturing excellence; the framework was developed by MCP and NSA Food and Drink Manufacturing.

Whitelegg To Show Monitoring Solutions At Maintec

Whitelegg Machines has announced that it will exhibit at the upcoming Maintec 2010 event. The company has also invited Tim Thomas, senior engineer of Baker Instrument Company, to join it at the event. On Stand F6, Thomas will be giving a learn-shop presentation on aspects of motor condition monitoring. As well as showing a range of instruments for the online and offline testing and monitoring of electric motors, Whitelegg will be launching NetEP: its online motor monitoring network-based system.

This is an automated system for the monitoring of electrical rotating equipment. The instrument will monitor 40+ parameters on up to 32 motors and on up to seven voltage buses. Benefits to the user include the automated evaluation of critical assets from the convenience of the office or anywhere an internet connection is available. With the ability to monitor multiple motors simultaneously, this instrument will supply important data along with saving time in comparison with route-based instrumentation, according to the company.

NetEP will notify the user of alarm situations, maintain all database functionality and trend all data for enhanced analysis. Tests include power quality, rotor bar integrity, torque ripple and the transient analysis of motor start-ups. Flir To Exhibit Infrared Cameras At Maintec

Flir will be showing its infrared cameras at Maintec 2010, each with added-value features to provide access to new applications. The programme applies to 40 different infrared camera models, from the low-cost compact range to the flagship professional units. The mid-range T-Series includes new features such as IR video streaming, periodic storage and new lenses, and can also be used for basic analysis and mainstream predictive-maintenance work.

The Flir T-Series comprises 10 models, with three appearing for the first time at Maintec 2010. These cameras are designed for those who need advanced functionality but not the sophistication of the Flir P-Series. Their thermal sensitivity is 0.05C across a wide temperature measurement range. To tailor temperature-measurement readings to the application, this addition offers a range of measurement modes. The Flir T365 and the T425 have been introduced to reduce energy consumption through highly efficient electrical and mechanical infrared faultfinding.

Features such as autofocus and zoom lens enhance the flexibility of these models. Ergonomic design combined with low-weight, picture-in-picture fusion, touch-screen, tiltable lens unit, laser pointer and interchangeable optics complete the package. Flir will also be showing its gas-detection cameras. The models can also see, measure and visualise temperature. In addition to gas and VOC leak detection, these fully radiometric cameras can be used to detect electrical and mechanical faults, and for building inspection.
