WRc has announced that it is to run a training course on 23-24 March 2010 entitled 'Essentials for Managing Drain Repair'. The two-day training programme is designed to help attendees understand the cost-effective use of this key maintenance discipline. Based on the second edition of 'The Drain Repair Book', prepared by WRc on behalf of the insurer's Drainage Forum, the course will examine the investigation and repair of domestic and light industrial drains and will identify the key decisions for selecting appropriate repair techniques.
Special emphasis will be given to the impact of repair selection on cost and performance. The course is aimed at underpinning the business processes relating to identifying the need for repairs and the selection of the appropriate techniques. It will help delegates to understanding: drain design and layout; common causes of failure; the best-practice requirements of the insurance industry; the correct commissioning and interpretation of drain surveys; the selection of appropriate repair techniques; cost and performance implications; and monitoring the quality of work.
The course is suitable for professionals and managers who need to develop their understanding of the drain-repair sector and their business skills in commissioning surveys and repairs.

Freeman To Participate In Powder-Blending Course
Freeman Technology joins academic and industry experts in delivering a course on blending and flow of pharmaceutical powders. The course, which is being held in Pearl River, New York, from 23-25 February, covers the 'blending and flow of pharmaceutical powders'.
The content is being delivered by: Prof Fernando Muzzio of Rutgers, State University of New Jersey; Ralf Kretzschmar, president of Glatt Systemtechnik; Ralf Weinekotter, general manager of Gericke AG; and Tim Freeman, director of operations for Freeman Technology. Key elements of the course include regulatory perspectives, mixing of free-flowing materials, mixing of cohesive materials, lubrication, continuous mixing and powder flow issues.
